Mathematical Foundations for the Boundary- Field Equation Methods in Acoustic and Electromagnetic Scattering

چکیده
The essence of the boundary-field equation method is the reduction of the boundary value problem under consideration to an equivalent nonlocal boundary value problem in a bounded domain by using boundary integral equations. The latter can then be treated by the standard variational method including its numerical approximations. In this paper, various formulations of the nonlocal boundary value problems will be given for the Helmholtz equation as well as for the timeharmonic Maxwell equations. Emphasis will be placed upon the variational formulation for the method and mathematical foundations for the solution procedure. Some numerical experiments are included for a model problem in electromagnetic scattering.

Integral Equation Methods in Inverse Obstacle Scattering with a Generalized Impedance Boundary Condition
The inverse problem under consideration is to reconstruct the shape of an impenetrable two-dimensional obstacle with a generalized impedance boundary condition from the far field pattern for scattering of time-harmonic acoustic or E-polarized electromagnetic plane waves. We propose an inverse algorithm that extends the approach suggested by Johansson and Sleeman [10] for the case of the inverse...

Preface In our course we will consider the volume integral equations in the following form) () () () () () (x f dy y u y b y x y x K x u x a Q m = − − + ∫ , 3 ≤ m. Many important classes of the wave scattering problems can be described by equations of this form; for example, this is the case for problems of electromagnetic and acoustic scattering on 3D transparent bodies. The corresponding inte...

This paper presents a general formulation to investigate the scattering from Multilayer Lossy Inhomogeneous Metamaterial Planar Structure (MLIMPS) with arbitrary number of layers and polarization. First, the dominating differential equation of transverse components of electromagnetic fields in each layers derived. متن کاملHybrid numerical-asymptotic boundary element methods for high frequency wave scattering
There has been considerable interest in recent years in the development of numerical methods for time-harmonic acoustic and electromagnetic wave scattering problems that can efficiently resolve the scattered field at high frequencies. Standard finite or boundary element methods (FEMs and BEMs), with piecewise polynomial approximation spaces, suffer from the restriction that a fixed number of de...
متن کاملOn Integral Equation and Least Squares Methods for Scattering by Diffraction Gratings
In this paper we consider the scattering of a plane acoustic or electromagnetic wave by a one-dimensional, periodic rough surface. We restrict the discussion to the case when the boundary is sound soft in the acoustic case, perfectly reflecting with TE polarization in the EM case, so that the total field vanishes on the boundary. We propose a uniquely solvable first kind integral equation formu...
